Got this myself on my phone, as well as it simply refused to update. Below's what benefited me.

Edit: this seems to be a concern that Facebook recognize. It's an issue with the Facebook application, and not a generalised Play Shop issue.

This is what benefited me at the very least.

  1. Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store, Clear data as well as Clear cache

  2. Settings > Applications > All > Google Play Solutions > Manage space, Clear all data and Clear cache


It doesn't hurt if you restart your phone prior to you try upgrading facebook once again. And, the install was SLOW. Just at the very least 4-5 mins. However, it did job. If not try to uninstall it, or simply await a solution.
