Facebook went offline for many customers on Thursday, with the world's most preferred social media network telling customers that "something failed".

When going to Facebook.com, instead of seeing the normal homescreen or information feed, users were welcomed with a blank display as well as a short error message.

" Sorry, something failed. We're working on it as well as we'll get it taken care of as quickly as we can," the message checks out.

The outage began at around 5.30 pm BST but, for many individuals, appeared to have been fixed around 20 minutes after.

Down Detector, which collects records of popular solutions being down, displayed failures in the UK, Europe and the US.

Naturally, individuals took to Twitter to have their say.

The site decreased on Thursday afternoon as well as brief-ly showed up to work once more for some individuals.

A spokesperson for Facebook has stated they are exploring what happened.
